Beautiful Cakes, Cupcakes & Pastries Around West Cobb

It’s that time of year – graduation parties, bridal showers, Mother’s Day – and what is a party without beautiful cakes and cupcakes, or pastries? Growing up, my uncle owned a neighborhood bakery. So I was raised on fresh baked breads, beautiful cakes and OMG cookies! There was also a local neighborhood bakery in my hometown that made cupcakes for everyone’s birthday at school. Summer vacations spent in upstate NY, also offered an amazing bakery that made the BEST chocolate covered custard donuts (as well as several other yummy items), and sadly closed without sharing the recipe. The custard was so thick, you could eat it with a spoon. These were all local businesses with unique specialties and recipes that brought us all back for more.

Over the years, these neighborhood businesses were replaced with large chain stores which provide cakes for many events, and while their bakeries are good, they are not the same as the ones I visited growing up. Superstores became more convenient with one stop shopping. But what about when you wanted something unique? Not to worry, there are several places to get something special around West Cobb. Downtowns are being revitalized and small businesses are coming back. You can sit and enjoy a cup of coffee with a cupcake in Marietta Square at places like Miss Mamie’s, or Gabriel’s in Acworth, Cupcakes So Sweet in Kennesaw and others around West Cobb. Just follow along as people ask on Facebook, or ask neighbors, or better yet, check out the list we curated below of brick & mortar bakeries, as well as specialty businesses, some of which are cottage food businesses.

These are the ones that create those amazing cakes from your ideas and photos. Each one has unique talents to help you with your cake and cupcake options.

Considering making your own cake? Michaels and Joann’s offer cake decorating classes. And for those more adventurous, there is Cake Art in Tucker, GA offering a variety of cake making and decorating supplies. I have been to this store and it is quite the experience!

Have you visited any of these businesses or used any of these designers? Please share your pictures – your neighbors want to know! It’s one of the great things about living in West Cobb. And if we missed any, sorry ! Just let us know so we can add them to the list.

Celebrate National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day Around West Cobb

Grilled Cheese sandwiches can also be known as comfort food. Paired with tomato soup, they are a lunch favorite throughout the US. It has even created a new crop of restaurants exclusive to this food favorite including Tom+Chee, The Melt, The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen, and many more. Tom+Chee even found investor support from Barbara Corcoran on SharkTank. Foodies have taken the grilled cheese sandwich to a whole new level. But of course, there’s still the original. April is National Grilled Cheese Month and April 12th is National Grilled Cheese Day.

Economics of food are responsible for several favorites. So it is no surprise that the modern version of the grilled cheese sandwich originated in the US in the 1920s when inexpensive sliced bread and American cheese became easily available. Over the years, it has become a menu staple in diners and many local restaurants. There’s even an entire website dedicated to the history of grilled cheese.
