Things To Do Around West Cobb – Sunday Brunch

Sunday Brunch is a time honored tradition in many families, whether it is a gathering after church services, scheduled time with friends and family, or an event saved for special occasions. First suggested by British author Guy Beringer in 1895, this blend of “breakfast” and “lunch” was suggested to be an alternative to the then post-church Sunday meals. Beringer described this option as “cheerful, sociable and inciting”. It took a while for this trend to appear in the US, where rumor has it that Hollywood stars making transcontinental train trips stopped in Chicago to enjoy a late morning meal in the 1930s.

On Sunday, May 10, families around West Cobb will celebrate Mother’s Day. Many will be selecting local restaurats to gather for brunch. There are several restaurants around West Cobb that offer Sunday Brunch on a regular basis, while others that are normally closed on Sundays, may offer Saturday Brunch, such as Henry’s Louisiana Grill in downtown Acworth. While there are several restaurants that offer Sunday breakfast options, you can click on the map locations below to see some of the restaurants in our area that offer Sunday Brunch.

Thinking of hosting your Mardi Gras party?

Sometimes it is important to understand an event such as Mardi Gras before you begin to put the pieces of the event together. This information can help with the planning process. While we all associate purple, green and gold with Mardi Gras, a small bit of trivia would be that this “Symbolism of Colors” is a doctrine reaffirmed in 1892 by Rec, the King of Carnival, who assigned a meaning to each color. Purple represents justice, green stands for faith, and gold signifies power. Since these colors are so indoctrinated in the Mardi Gras history, they should be incorporated into invitations and decor.

Beads are part of the history of Mardi Gras, so they should be included in your event, even if it is formal. You can use them as part of your decor. King Cake can be an integral part of your party planning, as tradition dictates that the person who finds the hidden item in the cake must either buy the cake or host the party. This is a great way to start a tradition amongst your group of friends and neighbors.

A short ride up 92 to Woodstock Road in Roswell will take you to The Movie Tavern in the recently renovated Sandy Plains Village. The Movie Tavern offers first run movies along with an eclectic menu offering plenty of items to satisfy your appetite.

You no longer have to select a restaurant for before or after the movie, you can enjoy both at the same time. The theater offers stadium seating along with a dining table for you to comfortably enjoy both your meal and the movie. I was also intrigued by their Breakfast and a Flick offering for weekend mornings, seems like a great way to enjoy a weekend morning, especially with family and friends.

Questions? Here are some of the questions I had and the answers I found on their website:

Is the meal before, during or after the movie?

How expensive is this?

Can I make reservations?

Can I host a party there?

Pacific Spice Restaurant

Living in the neighborhood, you know that there are several restaurants available for local dining options. Just driving Cedarcrest Road from Cobb Parkway to Dallas Acworth, you pass more than 10 restaurants. So there are several choices without driving too far. And we are fortunate that many of them offer take out, and in some cases, delivery. But sometimes, you just want to get out.

One of those evenings should definitely be spent at Pacific Spice. Tucked among the shops in Governors Towne Square shopping center at Cedarcrest Road and Cobb Parkway, is Pacific Spice. An Asian restaurant, they offer Thai, Japanese and Chinese cuisine. If you are partial to sushi, you can sit at the bar and watch as they create your selection, or you can join others at a table. On the other side of the restaurant, you can combine dining and entertainment at their hibachi tables. And then of course, there are the many other options available on their menu from traditional Chinese and Thai items to house specialties.

Peking Duck

Peking Duck

I prefer their Peking Duck, which is one of my favorites. I began my dinner with a house salad and ginger dressing, as did the others I was with. Everyone loved it! But last night we also ordered their Tangerine Beef. The restaurant was on a roll, since everyone loved it, and agreed it was the best they had ever had. The duck was crispy and tasty, with scallions, cucumbers and tomatoes to add to the pancakes.

Tangerine Beef

Tangerine Beef

While we didn’t have soup last night, we have had their soup in the past. They offer a Velvet Corn & Chicken Soup (for 2) that is excellent, and a nice departure from the usual Wonton or Egg Drop Soup.

There was no room for dessert, and of course we came home with leftovers.

While there are several restaurants in our neighborhood, the variety of Asian options offered by Pacific Spice make it a great place to go with friends. There’s something for everyone and enough variety to provide an adventure in dining.
